it's snowing......

Prvni snih se letos zacal sypat o tyden driv nez lonskeho roku a musim rict, ze me opravdu prekvapilo, kdyz jsem rano vyhledla z okna a uvidela tu nadilku. Cely den stridave snezi a prsi, takze postupne taje a zase pribyva a neni ho ted odpoledne o moc vic nez rano. Protoze jsem pekne doma v teple, vubec mi to nevadi. Kolovratek alespon nezahali, bytem voni chystana vecere a ja premyslim, co sladkeho dnes upecu az dopiji kavu.....


First snow arrived a week earlier then last year and I have to say that I was surprise, when I woke up this morning and looked out the window. It's snowing and raining all day so the snow is melting and then some more falling down and in the afternoon, there is still the same amount as in the morning. I am cozy at home and don't mind this "white stuff". The spinning wheel is put to work, the house smells of supper being cook and I am contemplating, what to make for dessert after I finish my coffee......

 Vcera vecen jsem mela o zabavu postarano, vzniklo toto pradenko. Je to uzasne videt v co se vam pred ocima meni obarvene kousky vlny a dalsi barevne prekvapeni na vas ceka kdyz z pradenka neco vytvorite.

 I had a blast last night working on this skein. You never know what colors you get after you spin your dyed fleece and  to make something from it is yet another surprise.

comfort food

Pro me snih patri nejenom k zime ale hlavne k vanocnim svatkum. A protoze ty letos byly jak se rika na blate, vubec by mi nevadilo, kdyby zustalo u prvni snehove nadilky, ktera nas potesila v listopadu. Jenze  nas tento tyden pocasi prekvapilo ( i kdyz v pulce ledna snih vlastne zadne prekvapeni neni ),  teploty klesly pod nulu a zeleny travnik prikryla snehova perina. Dnes rano to u nas vypadalo takhle.

For me, snow means not just winter,  but mostly Christmas holidays. And because  we didn't have white Christmas and saw first and last snow in November, I was content with our ( almost) snow less winter :) I guess I  can not, in the middle of January, get surprise, by a snowfall. And so it happened at the beginning of the week, temperature  dropped below zero, green grass is gone,  and this is how are yard looked this morning.

 

K zime patri nejenom snih ale take jidlo, ktere zasyti  a uspokoji  tzv. comfort food. Varim rada a dobre ( v mych letech a hlavne v tomto pripade se uz nemusim stydet za samochvalu :)) Tady je jeden z mych  "co je po ruce " receptu.  

Naporcovane kure (nebo jakekoli kureci casti) osmahneme na olivovem oleji se strouzky cesneku (klidne celou palickou)  a cibuli,  nakrajenou na velke kusy- osminky, "po ruce" byla cervena. Pridame nejradeji cerstve ( susene jsou samo sebou take fajn) bylinky. Bazalku, rozmarinku, dobromysl obecnou - neboli oregano, bobkovy list, osolime, opeprime a ted to nejdulezitejsi, co prida na vuni a chuti. citron. Ja doporucuji bio, protoze do pekacku prijde cely i s kurou. Rozkrojim, jednu pulku vymackam na kure a z druhou, nevymackanou polovinou nakrajim na dilky a pridam k masu. Vse jeste rychle osmahnu podleju troskou vody a dusim. Casto kontroluji a dolevam vodu. Protoze byl  pekacek plny, pockala jsem az se maso trosku "srazi" a pridala jeste na kostky nakrajenou zlutomasou dyni. Kdyz je kure hotove, dam chvilku zapect do trouby aby cele jidlo dostalo krasnou zlatavou barvu . Dobrou chut! 

To me winter also means comfort food and  I love cooking and  am a good cook ( yes, at my age and in this case I can brag :)) Here is one of my recipes. Chopped up whole chicken or any chicken parts you prefer. Fry in olive oil with cloves of garlic and veges of onion. I had red one on hand. Add preferably fresh herbs

( dry will do )  basil, oregano, rosemary, bay leaves,salt, pepper, and in this case I will insist, organic lemon. And that's because is going in with the skin. Cut it, squeeze half on the chicken,  then cut  with the other half into wedges and add all to the pot. Add little bit of water and simmer slowly. I also added cubed butter squash when the meat shrank a bit and there was more space in the pot. When the chicken's cooked  put it in the oven under the broiler for a bit just to give it that nice roasted look. Enjoy.

and so it begins

Prvni snih letosni zimy zacal padat vcera vecer a neprestal az do rana.  Neil sel pred spanim vyvencit  Tess a par vterin po tom , co k nemu pribehla zpatky spadla v miste kde predtim stala  (pod tihou snehu ) velika vetev. Tess se  snad zazrakem nic nestalo. Vetev pristala na mem a Neilove aute, me ma promackly blatnik a Neil ma nekolik "zhmozdenin" na kapote. Z toho radost nemame ale jsme oba moc radi, ze nase milovana cubicka Tess je v poradku.

First snow of this season started to fall last evening and didn't stop till this morning. Neil took Tess out before bed time,  and few seconds after she return to him a big branch fell on the ground where she was standing and landed on our cars.  Mine have two dents on the fender and his little dents all over his hood. We are not happy about that part but we are really grateful that our precious dog is ok.

Dnes uz zase krasne svitilo slunicko  a byl nadherny den.

Today the sun came out again and we had a gorgeous day.

 

Uz jste nekdy jedli "cipsy" z  Kaderavku? Jestli ne o hodne jste prisli a ja vam je vrele doporucuji  vyzkouset. 

Kaderavek umyjeme, osusime a natrhame na kousky. Nejlepe v mise pokapeme olivovym olejem a osolime hrubou soli.  Promichame, narovname na plech a peceme v troube vyhrate na 120 -150 celsia.. Jsou hotove kdyz prvni konecky zacinaji hnednout. Listy musi zustat zelene, hnede jsou spalene a maji horkou chut,  takze radeji  pecte pomaleji a casto kontrolujte. Napiste mi jak vam chutnali, u nas je v mziku cely plech pric, coz ale vubec nevadi, protoze na rozdil od klasickych chipsu,  tyhle kaderavkove,  jsou  zdrave.

Did you ever have Kale chips?  If not,  you have to try! It is really simple to make them. 

Directions

1. Preheat an oven to 250- 300 degrees F . Line a non insulated cookie sheet with parchment paper ( silicon pad ) .
2. With a knife or kitchen shears carefully remove the leaves from the thick stems and tear into bite size pieces. Wash and thoroughly dry kale with a salad spinner. Drizzle kale with olive oil and sprinkle with rock salt.
3. Bake until the edges brown but are not burnt, 10 to 20 minutes.

  I don't even take them off the baking sheet, my family flocks around me when I take them out of the oven and they are gone in no time.

Starsi syn Michael Jan oslavil 24 listopadu 19 narozeniny. Sesla se u nas na oslavu cela rodina a protoze bylo vsude plno snehu,pripadalo mi to spis jako vanoce nez konec listopadu.

Son Michael Jan celebrated 19th birthday on November 24th. The whole family got together and because there was so much snow it felt more like Christmas holidays than the end of November.

Nase cubicka Tess se okamzite nabali snehem jen kdyz se jde vycurat, Neil ji v patek odklidil snih pred domem. Vecer se uz oteplilo a zacalo prset a behem vikendu snih pomalu ale jiste tal.

Our Tess gets covered with snow just stepping out to pee so Friday Neil cleared some space for her in the front of the house. By the evening it was warmer and raining.

The snow was gone when we went for a walk today.

Teenager

Vcera,23.1. jsme oslavili Dominika (meho nejmladsiho) 13te narozeniny.Jak se tady u nas rika je ted oficialne teenager coz v prekladu znamena vek mezi 13 a 19 lety.Takze puberťák :))

Our youngest  son Dominik celebrated his 13th birthday yesterday.  I can believe   he is a teenager!

Dnes jsme vyrazili na cerstvy vzduch a za snehem.Neil,synove Michael a Dominik a jeho kamarad.Uzili si na bobove draze,Tess se vybehala a byl to moc hezky den.

We took our two boys and Dom's friend  up the mountain today. Everyone has fun, even Tess, she was running around enjoying the snow too.
